DIRECTORATE OBJECTIVE:

 

The Department: Community and Social Services seeks to ensure safe and secure community livelihoods.  These livelihoods are diverse in nature and need a collective effort of various role players which include Government Departments, Community Structures, and Non-Governmental Organisations, hence a need for a Social Needs Cluster.

 

The directorate Community and Social Services is composed of five Sections:

 

  • Disaster Management which involves integrated risk management planning and monitoring by building institutional capacity and preparedness for disaster intervention and response.

     

  • Fire and Emergency Services which deals with emergency rescue and response in an integrated manner including institutional capacity and preparedness to ensure the management of response for fire and emergency risks.

     

  • Social Development, Facilities and Community Safety seeks to protect and promote rights of vulnerable groups by mainstreaming their interests whilst improving livelihoods of indigent families under distress.  It also include support to library and information services by providing basic library furniture and ICT infrastructure required for community library services to promote a culture of reading, library usage and lifelong learning.

     

  • Municipal Health Services seeks to provide sustainable district health services including monitoring waste disposal and cycling, and monitoring testing of water and food samples.

     

    Sport, Heritage, Arts and Culture ensure the development of sport, heritage, arts and culture and capacity building to coordinate implementation of such activities and link to economic development. This includes preservation and conservation of heritage resources
